The Music Room at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall has played host to the great and the good, it has become a place where a spiritual journey is undertaken, where reactions and passions run high, a meeting place perhaps where the Emotional Geography of the land finds a way to be paid out and given the detailed scrutiny once only available to those with a keen interest in ordnance survey, the peaks, the troughs and the places of interest that are always within walking distance but so few make the effort to explore.

It may have been a strictly confidential moment but one fitting the determination and selfless fortitude into which Marc Vormawah finds himself occupying with a smile and a host of the resilient survivor inflamed into his very being; invited to open up the evening ahead of Only Child’s new album release gig inside the Music Room of the Philharmonic Hall, it became the unveiling of a secret shouted with glory, a tale within the annals of Liverpool music that would live on in the open.

Innocent faith may be examined, others can find ways to test your belief, make you question the foundation of all that you know and have come to hold dear; for some that faith is the epitome of their existence, for a small refuge of lovers and attendees, faith is about watching Britain’s answer to America’s finest ever duo, Simon and Garfunkel, and understanding that the two women on  stage now have reached a point where they can be considered true heirs, recipients to the crown of beautiful and insistent music.

Limerance, Gig Review. Music Room, Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

It would only have to be a whisper of voices and the audiences who crowd Limerance would by instinct demand on mass that the sound be turned up to a level in which their beautiful sense of Americana is more thoroughly deserving.

From a whisper in the mind to the creative flow that greets the Philharmonic Hall’s Music Room’s crowd, Limerance’s Jenny Coyle and Calum Gilligan once again proved that their demeanour and stance is an incredible sight to behold, the full resonance of their vocals is not just a joy, it is a dream to hear, full coloured and alluring, the kind of dream in which you wake from slightly unsure of what room you have woken up in and what day it is, the best type of vision to hold on to as everything is still wonderfully vibrant and possible.

It is natural to miss someone, to let time go past in such a manner that you find the song, that special reason you were drawn to them as a human being in the first place, takes upon itself to be treated like a fine shroud, delicate and interwoven with the days and weeks of since last you saw them, woven with gold silk, the voice that would have captured the soul of Homer’s Odysseus, still resonating around the concert venues of Liverpool and beyond.

The bus rolls on, it does so because Time has need for the company it keeps and in such bands as Fairport Convention, Time understands that the message, the song, is far too important to not allow it to be heard or to be shared live. Music is not only exists to ease the suffering, to use in times of rememberance or to make those who seek to dominate society uncomfortable, it is there to be gathered around and used to make people smile, to make them enjoy life  and Time, whilst sometimes being a peculiar beast, revels in the joy that can be heard.

The music of Boo Hewerdine may draw you in, the elegance of easy virtue and taste adding spice to the occasion but it is also his dry humour, his self- depreciation and anecdotes of a profession well lived that catches the attention of his live sets.

To many in the Philharmonic Hall’s Music Room, Boo Hewerdine is a colossus of British music and as he went through the near countless songs at his and the gathered audience’s disposal, there was no arguing with that simple and honest fact of artistic life.

The ambience, the environment of a tangible quiet serenity is only ever enhanced when a musician of deep meaning words adds his worth to the vibe on offer. Like a master painter of seascapes finding the one flaw in his work that would have gone unnoticed by all and sundry who marvelled infront of it, the addition of a single piece of spectral light peering ominously from behind a passing cloud, not only adds texture and meaning, it adds a vision perhaps unseen.
