There are films which have the audience hanging on the edge of their seats and usually they are for their sheer scope and vision they offer the cinematic screen. They do not normally have the truth of America’s dirty laundry being aired in public or the realisation that somewhere in the U.K. or any other country the underworld is not just in bed with law and order but the relationship is consensual and without the use of protection.

Alan Turing was a hero of the British war effort in World War Two. His name is now lauded, researched and cheered for his significant part in saving many millions of lives during the darkest of days that shrouded Europe in a blanket of hate. It was due to fear and mistrust though that eventually saw the Professor take his own life in the cruellest of circumstances under a decade later.

August: Osage County, a beautiful, flat and hot place to visit but you wouldn’t want to be related a particular family that resides there.

When renowned published poet Beverly Weston decides to take his own life, the can of spiteful and mean-spirited worms come flooding out everywhere and into the lives of the family members left behind, chiefly in the viscous tongue of drug addicted cancer patient of his wife Violet Weston. Nobody is immune, and like a disease floating free in the air, multiplies and takes root in the actions of some of those around her until words are said that become too much to bear.

Sherlock Holmes, just his very name is enough to bring a smile of satisfaction to the millions of fans of the science of deduction. Whether in the abundance of stories created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, including the classics The Sign of Four, The Red Headed League and the gothic horror The Hound of The Baskervilles or in the many film adaptations staring such luminaries as Basil Rathbone, Roger Moore, Robert Downey Jr. and Peter Cushing.  There have been the very successful early stage production or in the television series’ that has caught the public imagination starring Jeremy Brett or Benedict Cumberbatch, everybody who has ever enjoyed the detective has a point of view on him and the many faces he has worn.

Some things are just over a little too quickly. They are still magnificent, they keep you entertained and intrigued but the sense of having to wait for a lengthy period of time for a new series just as the action has reached a boiling point, a natural high of deduction, is far too much for some to bear.
