SheBeat, Gig Review. Brink, Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

There are some that do so much for the city, for the community that they are part of and yet never seem to get to get the recognition they fully deserve. They get mentioned in dispatches every so often, the grateful nod of satisfaction from those whose hearts they have touched and that is all, except to those whose opinions may matter more, those who truly appreciate all that person does and in Jodie Schofield and her alter ego musical persona of SheBeat, that person should be lauded for what she brings to the cultural diversity and experience of the city.

As the person behind the Be Lovely Day, it would naturally be thought of as o.k. for her sit back in the comfort of having organised another day in the calendar, a day when musicians get together and create something special in the bleakness of winter, who find the beauty of even making one person smile against the back drop of cold and spite that the Irish Sea can muster. However this being SheBeat, sitting back is not in her calling and to kick off a late afternoon of music at Brink is only the right thing to do.

This though was special beyond expectation, not only were the assembled treated to her strength of character and the songs Rainproof and Believe but also the unexpected delight of a new track and the promise of a new E.P. out soon. Whilst Rainproof, one of SheBeat’s most intriguingly delightful songs, full of promise and mesmerising imagery, filled the air, it was too the new track that the ears of the crown naturally turned and awaited.

Yours Sincerely, a song of depth and fortune, is a track in which you will remember where you were when you hear it for the first time, it has gravitas stamped throughout it and perhaps arguably signals a new phase in the life of SheBeat. A woman who grabs the attention of those who truly listen to music and not be sidetracked by the grasp of neon lights has once more opened up her soul and offered a piece of tangible assurance to the crowd; it was with great pleasure to see the new song so well received and with some great justification made sure that Jodie Schofield was not just congratulated for once more inspiring Be Lovely Day but giving her life to the city and the community.
