Kate Green, A Dark Carnival. Album Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 8.5/10

A Dark Carnival resides within us all, we might not allow the fair rides and galleries to be accessed by just anyone with the five shillings required to gain entry, but once inside they will come to appreciate what exactly drives the carriages onwards, it may not be their cup of tea, they might consider it more of a lengthy ghost train that has far too much emphasis on fate rather than celebration, but it is honest, it is a different kind of beauty in which to focus upon and one that is in reality a brighter ride to enjoy than one shrouded in make believe.

Every Morning

Sometimes I open the blinds

to witness the dark at four o’clock

in all its stillness.

But more often than not I keep

them closed, till the Sun insists

its alive and well, screaming

into the darkness that becomes

a whisper of joyful light by the time

it reaches my ears…

and yet every morning,

long before the birds

every morning I ask if you

Dryad Music, Folk Magic. Album Review. (Various Artists).

Legendary creatures don’t just appear overnight, fully formed and appearing before an audience, they require time to become the marvel that they are destined to be, and whether it is the forms of those who have become fables in the eyes of humanity, the beings who are part of much older stories than we can conceive, or the various artists, the dreamers, the thinkers, the believers in fortune, the dynamics of interaction through music, song, dance, the pleasure of being alive, what they have in common is persuasion, instinct, undoubted beauty in their soul.

To be a survivor of war is a blessing and a curse, either way you are unscathed by its effect on your mind and soul, it is how you deal with the anger, loss, and the stripped of humanity feeling which shows how the desire for revenge, or the ability to forgive will shape the future you have been offered.

Debates will rage on long after his replacement in the franchise is announced, a new favourite taking in the mantle as Ian Fleming’s suave, and sometimes brutal, hero, but as the final moments of No Time To Die roll, as the memories re-emerge of intricately drawn characters, of timely antagonists capturing the era with sublime fierceness, and of a screen hero facing arguably his own mortality, what we should arguably be recognising is that Daniel Craig as 007 is the greatest version of super British spy, James Bond, we might ever be treated to.
