We are always at war, a permanent state in which our minds are odds with society, with each other and within ourselves, the moment in which someone forgets you exist, the time in which we stood alone because snide remarks in ears won through…all these instances play out and the war in our head rages, yet for all that we put our best smiles on and face the world with subterfuge, for as Wars is at pains to point out, We Are Islands After All.

If you look back on your life so far is there a period which defines you more, shakes your belief in your ability to the point where spectres howl in unison, where they find ways to ridicule even the greatest of accomplishments, because of that every day may seem like a struggle to find the joy that is wrapped up in between the hours, Too Many Ghosts may sap the mood but in Mike Grogan’s world they are a boon and a bewitching addition to the music collection.

In the modern world it could be said that we have no mystique left, that we are all guilty in some way or another of sharing too much about ourselves in the digital spectrum, that people now not only see us naked physically but also uncovered in our thoughts also; the inhibitions banished to the social network winds and no longer we stand as anything but skin, bone and dissected illusion.

Not everything has to make sense in the world of cinema, it is the illusion after all many felt happy to fall in love with, however when it comes to making a good film, one that captures the imagination, the best way to engage with the audience is not to offer it something that is so unrealistic it hurts to watch and it is painful to conceive the planning meeting in which it was approved.

The prospect of losing someone so very close to us is perhaps the most primal feeling we can possess, it consumes us inside and out, it makes us say words we don’t mean and commit actions that are beyond what we would normally consider respectable. To face up to that day when we lose a parent is perhaps even more consuming, never mind if we actually get along with them, whether we love them or haven’t spoken for years, to lose the ones that brought you into the world has a devastating effect, especially on a young impressionable mind.

There are many ways to die in Midsomer, some so gruesome, so shocking that it is any wonder that people don’t move to the county just for the thrill of finding out what ingenious way they will perish at the hands of a potential murderer. Few though will expect to find themselves seeing their last visions of Earth, taking in the scenes of their final moments on Earth surrounded by rabbits.

Imagine how stupid I felt
after training hard
when I found out
that I didn’t have to run those
twenty six miles
dressed as an old
