Taylor Swift, Evermore. Album Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 8.5/10

The balance of influence is such that a pop song heard on the radio will last an eternity as an earworm for the vast majority of the population, forever catching them unawares at the most inopportune of moments, but poetry, even in the greatest of hands will rarely, truly, be remembered in full verse by anything like the amount of people.

Broon, Cosmic Ceilidh. Album Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 8.5/10

It is written in the Universe that all things must begin, and all things must change, that to bring in the new is not only important but allows entropy to rust silently at the gates of dawn, of the meeting of the old and of the experimental creations.

It is in this Cosmic Ceilidh that the handshake with time is explored, and where invitations to welcome in the positive and alluring starts can be found, and there is perhaps no more surprising, and yet superbly edifying foundation to a new universe than that imagined and fully conceived by Broon, also known as the multi-instrumentalist Steve Brown, has presented in his debut album Cosmic Ceilidh.

Staged (Series Two). Television Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 8.5/10

Cast: Michael Sheen, David Tennant, Simon Evans, Georgia Tennant, Anna Lundberg, Lucy Eaton, Whoopi Goldberg, Ben Schwartz, Michael Palin, Romesh Ranganathan, Nick Frost, Simon Pegg, Christoph Waltz, Ewan McGregor, Hugh Bonneville, Ken Jeong, Josh Gad, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Cate Blanchett.

The problem with originality is that it is difficult to improve upon, people have either sussed you out and expect the format or idea to fail, or they expect bigger and better, the joke to take on a deeper, perhaps even more demanding Kafkaesque appeal; they then insist that the first foray into a new realm was always going to be the best and that it was folly, even reckless to attempt the stunt once more.

Murph Bower, Destruction. E.P. Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

It does not matter if you have an appetite for it, Destruction is always in the air, it just takes the emboldened hand to hold the right match, and the whole edifice of lies and confusion can come crashing down, destruction of the walls, mayhem ensues, and faith in humanity scattered.

Steve Hackett, Under A Mediterranean Sky. Album Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * * *

Even without the world having changed beyond recognition in the last year, the way we were travelling, seeing what lay far from our own shores, had arguably become one akin to the permanent buffet, dip and take a slice of what you fancy and then immediately move on to the next dish without truly appreciating what you have tasted, without asking what ingredients made the plate such a delicious treat, without savouring the dedication and industry which made it dance on your tongue with delight.

The Sad Song Co., Saudade. Album Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

You either scoff or feel the ominous noise of memory as you inhale the words of your parents as a young child, that you must make the most of what you have, for you will never be able to experience it again. It comes with the new, the novel moment when you realise for the first time that life is not only about adventure, but the collection of melancholic longing for a sense of joy that you can only harness in commemoration, never in the celebration of freshly acquired.

Hello Cosmos, Dream Harder. Album Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

Spectacle, in the wrong hands, is a towering achievement of manifestation over consistency and the application of truth; however, when utilised correctly, when moulded into shape by the edifying and unyielding, it becomes a persuasive argument in the fight against inertia and apathy.

To Dream Harder is to admit that what you desire is more than just merely the act of ownership, it is the acknowledgement that your destiny is guided by passion, it is not hidden away in a dark cupboard somewhere as if it the gift of want, more the belief that what you create will stand up in the face of detractors and be tangible evidence of your existence, of your imposed will on a chaotic Cosmos.

Anna Elizabeth Laube, Annamania. Album Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

In times past, as way of introduction, people would travel between kingdoms to future employers, or to non-family members to whom they were hoping to visit so they could perhaps take advantage of seeing for themselves the structure and architecture of the area, letters of introduction vouching for their fidelity, their trustworthiness, the fact that who they were could not be questioned because someone else took time to paint a picture of their past deeds and their personal achievements.

Voodoo Circle, Locked & Loaded. Album Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 8.5/10

You don’t fix things that are not broken, but you can enhance them by returning to a classic setting and seeing what creative juices flow from the experience, watching, anticipating what will be released when the flood gates holding back the past are removed and the barriers flung open with a flourish.
