Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10
Making Moves, an aspect of human life that shows our intent to strive for a higher plane, to understand that whilst occasionally we might need to rest, we must never sit long enough that the belief in our purpose is replaced by the temptation to settle, we must forever see life as a mysterious adventure, not as a couch worn away by the imprint of our remains and established habit.
Geoff Carne & The Raw Rox Band have intentionally thrown themselves at the constant speed of life, it is a virtue that the fans don’t just find appealing, they positively endorse its winning and dramatic, infectious groove, and in the man himself the sense of purpose has always been the most endearing, and fundamental means of making music, and Making Moves.
The new seven-piece release, five lyrical songs bookended by a cavalier and hugely remarkable instrumental that Monty Norman would have been proud of, sees Jim Black, Zoki Jovanoski, Bob ‘The Rock’ Calvert. Arby ‘Miami’ Rockman, and Tanya Lee combine with the leader of this band of troubadours and instrumental poets and bards, in a recording that just blows the mind and puts ambition on a scale that we can only admire and ask of ourselves to follow.
Between The Rox Take 1 and Take 2, is a flourish of sound that captures the imagination, a signature resilience and upbeat interchanges that are the staple of Geoff Carne’s lifeblood, and as the passage of I Won’t Get Fooled Again, There You Go!, Cruel To Be Kind, Sometimes, and the album title track of Making Moves fill the air with subtly and the exuberance of beauty, so the listener finds once more the sheer intensity of Geoff Carne’s vision is one of the upmost delights in a world often looming towards the beige and the greyscale of life.
Making Moves is an action in progress, it is the force of a man and his compatriots that add an abundance of colour, charm, mood, and cheer to life, that make every move one that rocks the mind and sways the heart in time. A sense of outstanding timing as ever, Geoff Carne & The Raw Rox Band have it all in hand.
