If you had not purchased a programme and read for yourselves the biographies of the individuals on the stage, then there will be many gasps of astonishment when you discover that not all the incredible cast are training to be actors. Whilst reading that one is a Pharmacology student and then casting your eye further down the page to discover a Psychology student in amongst the names, you might be forgiven in thinking that this perhaps is just another run of the mill student show.

Liverpool Radiology Tutor Cath Swaps Lecture Theatre For Unity Theatre In The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

She may be a radiology lecturer by day, but by night Cath Williams hangs up her lab coat and indulges in her second passion: theatre directing.

Cath, whose brother Kevin Kennedy played the character Curly Watts in Coronation Street, is currently helming the musical comedy The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, which opens at Liverpool’s Unity Theatre on February 26th 2014.

The University of Liverpool employee, who first got involved in drama at her secondary school, said: “I’m doing the show because I have to exercise the artistic side of my brain or I will more than likely go insane!”

Darren Day And Niki Evans Set To Star At The Royal Court Theatre.

Darren Day and Niki Evans are set to star in the first U.K. tour of William Finn’s Tony Award-winning musical comedy – The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, which plays at Royal Court, Liverpool on 5th – 9th November. Spelling Bee is a musical comedy that centres on the lives of six quirky adolescents who have entered into the ‘Bee’, a competition that asks the contestants to spell a variety of words, usually with a broad degree of difficulty, which is run by three equally as quirky grown-ups.
