Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

One of the ways in which to measure a person is how they can be weighed up in a situation not of their making or in the face of impossible insurmountable mounting odds; the quality of a person is not in what they eat, what they wear or how much stuff, gadgets, cost of house, money or seeming how popular they are after they have bought a round of drinks but in how they cope with a new challenge being thrown at them there and then on the spot and the power of how they are viewed.

Liverpool Favourite, Stephen Langstaff, To Perform At The East Village Arts Club.

Over the last 12 months, Stephen Langstaff has sold out the Epstein Theatre and played to a packed house at the newly opened East Village Arts Club in his native Liverpool. He’s enjoyed multiple plays on Radio 2 of his song Smile and has travelled the U.K. playing solo shows and mastering his live performance. Stephen has recently returned from a trip to Nashville after being invited to write songs with some of the finest writers that the Music City has to offer. Now Stephen is returning to the East Village Arts Club for what promises to be a superb night of music on Thursday 12th December.

The applause builds up slowly and surely in heated anticipation before exploding with a feel of over- riding love as Stephen Langstaff makes his way on stage to give the huge crowd at The East Village Arts Club, something they have craved all evening, the sound and voice of one of Liverpool’s finest in full flow.

In eighteen short months the life and career of musician Stephen Langstaff has taken on almost sky rocket proportions, for a young man he was already well known as a decent support act in his own right and was able to open for the Bangles at the Academy on their tour in the summer of 2008. Stephen then got the call to support the Lightning Seeds at the Liverpool Philharmonic and then a coveted opening spot for Deacon Blue at this years Liverpool Summer Pops at the Echo Arena.

Arriving on stage, on the second night of the tour and back in his home town, Stephen Langstaff thrilled an extra large crowd with a headliners performance. Stephen was at the Academy as part of the Academy live tour and even though he had only forty five minutes to show once more why he is being touted as a huge talent that will surely rise to the top of the music tree one day, he rose to the occasion perfectly.

I last caught up with Stephen Langstaff just under a year ago when he was about to go on his eagerly awaited Academy tour at four different venues. This tour opened up more doors to the young Liverpool singer/songwriter and in the following year he has had the distinct pleasure of opening for the Lightning Seeds on their latest tour, culminating in a fantastic critically received gig at the Cadogan Hall, London.

L.S. Media Rating ****

If there is anyone left in Liverpool that doubts the talent and ability of Stephen Langstaff then it would be easy to say they really have no idea of how good this man is, it would be even easier to show them why their misconception of Stephen is wrong and to take them to a gig and let them change their mind naturally.

Stephen Langstaff has come a long way in such a short space of time, it’s a wonder that he has found the time to stand still and reflect on his life so far, let alone go into the studio and come out with a stunning album that does justice to his prestigious talent but also features one of the finest Roy Orbison covers ever recorded.
