There was a time when a graphic novel adaption, or a spin off from a much-loved film would be met with the mixture of apathy and delight. Apathy because there was only so much that television could do in terms of making the programme accessible and in keeping with the character’s back story.

Zombies are big business, the walking dead have a licence to print money, they are a psychologists dream of interpretation and they have the unnerving ability to project a fear into us that perhaps goes beyond that of any real plague we might determine being set loose on the world; in short, zombies, it seems, can do no wrong, especially for television and certainly not for cinema.

It should be a refreshing take on an idea, the real life animosity that resides in the heart of a spurned ex-wife over the new woman in the man’s life, the lies, the sense of fragile and the broken manifesting itself as a potential weapon, of a rage boiling to its maximum, to the end point where the terrifying spectacle of what you see is the representation of all that can go wrong when women fight over a man. It is not the nicest thing on Earth to witness and it does leave you wondering exactly what women see in the opposite gender to make them go down the path of no return.

There is nothing like a good Batman film in which to soak up a few hours, Bob Kane’s gift to comic book fandom has had its ups and down, whilst enjoyable in a kitsch, clique ridden way, the 60s television and subsequent film didn’t add much to the mystique of the Dark Knight, whereas Michael Keaton’s and Christian Bale’s interpretation of the man and the myth was completely and beautifully captured by their respective directors.
