Path Unknown, Gig Review. Zanzibar, Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

The name of the band may be Path Unknown but since their debut gig at the O2 Academy in January of this year, the course they have been on, the direction they are treading has been ever upwards and quite rightly so. This is no way an unknown path, this is one that is very well thought out and performed so well that in seven short months the band has already made several inspired moves sound wise. From being good and ones to watch at The Academy, to slap me sideways with a cold halibut excellent takes quality, hubris and a dedication in achieving the best, all this has been realised.

They are one of the great young bands and artists that call Liverpool their home. Alongside many others that in the last few years have made the city’s music addicts sit up and take notice of the new and tremendously exciting breed coming through, such as All We Are, Stealing Sheep, Path Unknown, Joe Symes and The Loving Kind, Only Child, Mono L.P.s, Matt Breen, Buckle Tongue, Rob Vincent and Carrianne Hayden, The Hummingbirds name has travelled far and wide, beyond the metaphorical city walls and out into the open world. People outside the city have once more discovered what makes Liverpool tick like no other in the U.K. and perhaps in the world.

To perform your debut gig in the spotlight of the o2 Academy’s glare takes some supreme effort and fortitude, to achieve the appreciation of an audience when you are effectively a band member down and still sound extremely good takes a band that have a great future in front of them. For Path Unknown, all bodes well and they certainly won’t be unknown for long.
