Legends Come To New Brighton This May, As The Floral Pavilion Rocks To The Sound Of Wilko Johnson And John Otway.

Following a remarkable recovery from a diagnosis of terminal cancer, Wilko Johnson the original Dr. Feelgood guitarist, actor (Game of Thrones character Ser Ilyn Payne) and all round national treasure has enjoyed a rousing return to the live arena, including a number 1 album with Roger Daltrey (Going Back Home), a sold out show at The Royal Albert Hall to mark his 70th birthday and, most recently, the release of Blow Your Mind, his first album of new material in decades.

The Lady Vanishes, Theatre Review. Floral Pavilion, New Brighton.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 8.5/10

Cast: Juliet Mills, Maxwell Caulfield, Lorna Fitzgerald, Matt Barber, Robert Duncan, Philip Lowrie, Ben Nealon, Elizabeth Payne, Mark Carlisle, Joe Reisig, Natalie Law, James Boswell, Cara Ballingall.

A classic thriller, the blood runs warm at the thought, the detective juices are turned on and the simmering undercurrent of intrigue is stirred sufficiently to keep an audience on their toes; a story worthy of the great crime dramas, The Lady Vanishes has all the hall marks of a tale of conspiracy and manoeuvring, of being part of a time in which an ideal of Europe was decaying and in which a new, terrifying order was being installed, a Europe on the brink.

Joe Brown, Gig Review. Floral Pavilion, New Brighton.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 8.5/10

You can find yourself at a Joe Brown gig for any given reason but you will stay for the unrelenting pleasure received from his undaunted smile, his absolute joy at sharing music with you and simply because he is an entertainer, a gentleman of the times who has never been left behind and to whom music is best served naturally and with openness. You may find yourself in the grip of bad times but Joe Brown cannot help but put a smile on your face and a song in your heart.

Justin Hayward, Gig Review. Floral Pavilions, New Brighton.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

The very best of men are those that have the mystique of being legendary about them, the glow that the audience sees on stage and who revel in the mystery but also appreciate the man, the very human, the down to Earth persona of the artist who is extremely talented but immensely humble about their contribution to the world, the music and souls they have touched.

Vesbim, Pink Floyd’s The Wall, Gig Review. Floral Pavilion, New Brighton.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

Beneath a blaze of lights and lasers, backed by a boom of energised electric guitar and the thumping drumbeats provided by the superb Phil Westwood, Vesbim announced their arrival on stage at The New Brighton Floral Pavilion to perform their magnificent representation of Pink Floyd’s iconic 1979 album The Wall in grand style, and never for a moment let the pace slip.

Go West never have to send out an elaborate invitation for their fans to attend a night of music delight. The word seems to get out, made easier by 21st Century social media, that Peter Cox and Richard Drummie are going back out on the road, that they will be touring their much loved songs and like the proverbial baseball slogan, the audience comes, and the aisles and the spaces provided near the now neglected seats having irresistible dancing and loud appeals for more thrust ever closer to the stage.

It may seem extraordinary, the type of story that even a seasoned publisher might balk at the idea of putting into print but the rise of Widnes songstress Natalie McCool is one that demands to be told over and over again and each time the narrative is accounted, the stronger it becomes and that is because like all good stories, it is, like her music, 100 per cent sincere.

April In Paris, Theatre Review. Floral Pavilion, New Brighton.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

Cast: Shobna Gulati, Joe McGann.

Paris is the city of many dreams, it whispers across the Channel and throughout Europe like a tempting lover, slowly cocking its finger, begging that you come armed with flowers and an open mind. Together with knowing full well that the first time you lay eyes on sights such as Sacre Coeur, the Moulin Rouge, the magnificence of the Eiffel Tower and the haunting gothic nature of Notre-Dame, Paris will capture the heart and have you professing love, even if the word is an alien as the thought of not having the stomach to try the gastronomic delights on offer in April in Paris.
