The build-up in tension that comes from a promise of a modern-day disaster requires to always be delivered. Failure to underline and provide the ending to which many have expected, replacing it with a noting more than a wishy-washy explanation is detrimental to the time and care placed before the viewer, and leaves a taste in the mouth that is overall, unforgiveable.

All good stories end far too soon and as one of the biggest hits on the B.B.C., The Musketeers, will attest as it draws to its finale, such stories are only possible to love because they have been given absolute care and love by those involved and the audience at home; that rare mix to which so many lengthy serials strive for but so few actually grasp the true meaning of The Prize at hand.

It may be hard to define what makes the Inspector George Gently series such compelling television. After all, there is an abundance of police dramas constantly on the go, like a merry go round that just keeps getting fuller and faster as more channels are added and then you go and include the Nordic Noir series, the United States imports which these days are too clean, too clinical and far too science based as if they are an advertisement for a thousand microscopes rather than the actual detective, the dogged gumshoe approach.
