Liverpool Pride Festival has revealed that acclaimed Mersey singer Marc Almond will headline the Summer 2017 event.
The former Soft Cell front man is originally from Southport. He has sold over 30 million records worldwide, and is appearing at Liverpool Pride for the first time just weeks after he celebrates his 60th birthday.
This is the eighth consecutive year of Liverpool Pride, a free two-day event celebrating all things L.G.B.T. This year’s festival takes place on Saturday 29th July and Sunday 30th July 2017 returning to St. George’s Quarter for the second year.
Organisers of Liverpool Pride Festival 2016 are inviting the city’s retail and commercial sectors to get behind Dress With Pride, an exciting new addition to the festival for 2016.
Dress With Pride will see customer facing organisations – such as shops, bars, restaurants, visitor attractions, hotels and offices – allow their employees to swap their usual uniforms and work attire to don colourful and creative costumes throughout the week of the Liverpool Pride Festival 2016.
Businesses taking part will be showing their support for Liverpool Pride Festival 2016; their LGBT staff and customers; the city; and the wider LGBT communities.

The heat in Liverpool, even at ten in the morning, has begun to drain people and what feels like the longest heat-wave since 1976 takes on the atmosphere in the city and it feels strangely quiet around the area of St. Luke’s as crowds flock to river to get some sea breeze and seek some sort of shelter against the summer sun. One man though who forever seems in good spirits and who can turn an overcast, thundery day into a ray of sunshine is Eddie John Fortune.
The Malmaison may have seen many sights in its short while in the city but the hotel and the staff could be forgiven if the sight of Gotham City’s finest crime fighting unit, Batman and Robin, handing out the programme of events ahead of the launch of this year’s Liverpool Pride to all, was one that had by-passed them…until today.
The reason for the dynamic duo, in reality Matt Belfield as Bruce Wayne’s alter ego and Dan Hicklin, suitably attired as his partner Robin, was soon apparent as Liverpool Pride this year will take over the City Centre superhero style on Saturday 3rd August.
