The balance sheet that people live their lives by, the counting out of every penny just to make ends meet, the sense of never getting ahead of the game and spiralling ever deeper into the world of debt, of being on the streets. This is a world in which the feeling of inhumane, of intolerable suffering, is so prevalent, so close to everybody’s thoughts that it is surprising that there is less vocal anger than there should be at politicians who see food banks as a complex reason, who see the poor as deserving and it always feels like the world of politics is one step away from re-introducing that most evil of Victorian values, the workhouse.

Rep Company Joins With Young Everyman Playhouse To Explore Young Love And Transgression In Romeo and Juliet.

The Everyman Company will join with the award-winning Young Everyman Playhouse (YEP) for Romeo and Juliet. Set in a world of gangs, Nick Bagnall’s production re-imagines Shakespeare’s classic love tale for 21st Century audiences, exploring sexuality with some of the characters having their gender swapped, including Juliet who will become Julius.

Said&done have come back to the Unity Theatre with Bruce Norris’s Clybourne Park, a play set in America in the 1950s and then later on in 2009. The play was originally written by Norris as a response to Lorraine Hansberry’s, A Raisin in the Sun, and looks at race relations in America over the last fifty years. Set in a fictitious Chicago neighbourhood, Russ and Bev are all ready to pack up and move on having sold their house to a coloured family, but very quickly learn how things really are in a society still not ready to move on with the times.

Arthur Miller’s plays are such that to miss out on a production of them is simply not good form. All you really need to know about life in the United States in the 20th Century can be found in the writings of one of the keenest minds of the time and his look at certain frailties of life, emasculation, deceit, dishonour and the destruction of a system that was corrupt and hopelessly out of touch with his thinking, are repeated over and again in the hope that someone, anyone might understand what is going wrong in the country.

Hoof! Returns After A Three Year Break To The Unity Theatre This April.

After a three year break, and due to massive popular demand Spike Theatre return with their popular improvisational show Hoof! at the Unity Theatre on the 4th and 5th April 2014.

The show, which B.B.C. Radio calls “Refreshingly different, side-achingly funny, just pure comic genius.”, sees A bare stage transforms into a visual, verbal and musical feast as five physical performers and a musician catapult the audience into a totally improvised world.

Hoof! Is not a production of improvisation games but two entire plays improvised quite literally on the Hoof! Based on a unique form of spontaneous theatre previously only performed in the U.S.A. Spike Theatre are pleased to be back at The Unity having taken a few years to recharge their improvisation batteries.

Sometimes there are no words that can ever justify the praise or warmth you wish to impart to people or future audiences on how good a play or performance is.  You just have to watch the crowd’s reaction and listening to the cheering of those that had made their way Epstein Theatre to watch The Sunshine Boys too know that the production is just simply amazing.

Life In Theatre Brings Some Extra Sunshine To Liverpool With Casting Confirmed For Show.

Life in Theatre Productions are proud to present their second Broadway production at the beautiful Epstein Theatre this Summer, following their recent smash hit production of The Last 5 Years. From 15th August – 7th September theatregoers will be treated to a 3 week run of Neil Simon’s critically acclaimed Broadway and West End Vaudeville comedy, The Sunshine Boys and full casting for the show is now confirmed.

Liverpool theatre veterans Andrew “Drew” Schofield and Alan Stocks are already announced to play the lead roles of Al Lewis; the laid-back, smiling assassin (Drew Schofield in his Neptune/Epstein debut), and the cantankerous old clown Willie Clark (Alan Stocks) and now producers are delighted to announce the talented supporting cast who will join this dynamic duo!
