It may not be the last we hear of John Wick, but if the series was to end on Chapter 4 then the final instalment of the lone assassin’s revenge/redemption tale is by far and without argument, its masterpiece.

The Matrix trilogy can be seen truly as a cultural phenomenon; admittedly one that was at its peak in the first of the films delivered to a film loving crowd wowed by its cinematography and effects, but still a series of films that asked questions of our perceived vision of reality, and how we were, and continue, to be enveloped by the idea of being repressed by a superior mind just to appear that we are indeed in control of our own destiny.

Keanu Reeves is a conundrum, arguably one of the most sincere actors of his generation, an instantly likeable man, and someone who has that rare quality of being thoroughly decent to all. Yet on occasion the real is replaced by the puzzling, the mystifying, how else do you balance the honourable with a series of films in which the body count is off the scale and in which you cannot help but argue that is the epitome of violence for violence sake, and one that seriously asks how far American culture has gone down the route of almost being addicted to the sound of gunfire and its relationship with world of gaming.

The world of modelling and fashion is one in which dreams are made but in which nightmares for many come true. Hedonistic, rebellious and cut throat, someone somewhere will want to kill you just for being thinner and younger than them. In a more gruesome reality than in which famed science fiction spectacular Logan’s Run could muster, that to be over twenty is to be written off by the vogue society, demons will always come home to rule the roost.

Watching a film adaptation of any Philip K. Dick story is likely to leave you scratching your head, pondering the meaning of existence and wondering if the directors have kept hold of their own sanity whilst working on a man’s work who was undoubtedly brilliant but whose words were riddled with the idea of a man searching for his own personal identity, even more so than any protagonist he wrote about in his novels or short stories.
