Kaiser Chiefs, Duck. Album Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 7/10

Duck and cover for the moment the insults hurl when you dare suggest that a premium British band’s latest work is not on the same scale that has once been; but in a world that sees offence as a right, occasionally you must withstand the silver bullet fired and be prepared to stand your ground. Duck perhaps, but not cover, for as long as the sentiment is true and not discourteous then ultimately what happens is that you hope the next album is a return to form, to be successful.

Arena tours are all well and good but on the odd occasion, to take a step away from the big swirling spaces and resonating echoes that the big halls can provide with serial relish, and to come to a venue steeped in musical history in the Midlands and remains captivatingly one of the best for atmosphere and crowd enjoyment, the Kaiser Chiefs hit the Wolverhampton Civic Hall with so much ammunition, so much energy, that the only surprise was the building and the audience were left intact at the end.

Not so much as offering a riot or an explosion of epic proportions, what first nights really do after all but The Kaiser Chiefs kicked off their latest tour with some style, much swagger and ultimately thunderous applause from an Echo Arena crowd that had seemingly waited far too long for the band to return to Liverpool.

Kaiser Chiefs, Education, Education, Education & War. Album Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

The Kaiser Chiefs promised a hiatus and that is what their fans got and thankfully the time has come again for the Yorkshire band. With new addition Vijay Mistry on drums, Ricky Wilson, Andrew White, Nick Baines, Simon Rix have conspired to make sure that the past few years away have not been for nothing, that they have worked what ever made them go arguably off the boil somewhat out of their system and will see their fans relish as if have been offered the keys to musical sanctuary in the form of Education, Education, Education & War.

With a style that seems very heavily influenced by the old punk rock guard of The Boomtown Rats, The Jam and The Stranglers, the Kaiser Chiefs are fast becoming this generations must see and like the Rats and the Stranglers, The Kaiser Chiefs seem to have cottoned on to their audience’s and fans desire for clever social songs wrapped up in good guitar work and with a beat to die for.

Kaiser Chiefs, The Future is Medieval. Album Review

The Kaiser Chiefs can never be accused of conforming or becoming stale. After the first three albums went top ten in the British charts and even did respectively well in the American market, the Yorkshire band have released their fourth album, The Future is Medieval.

The Future Is Medieval started out as one of the most unique promotional efforts in the history of recorded music. In early June the band put out over 20 tracks on their website with the offer of downloading the songs that you wanted, to create your own perfect Kaiser Chiefs compilation of new tracks, and even in these austere times the response was outstanding. On the back of that the band released a tangible copy for their fans consisting of 13 of those tracks.

The Kaiser Chiefs have got to be classed as one of the complete bands to emerge in the last 20 years. No matter how big and popular the Yorkshire lads have got, they look and play the part well of a band who are at home in a huge stadium, such as the Liverpool Echo Arena as they are in one of the many Academy venues dotted around the country.
