Joe Symes And The Loving Kind, Things Get Better. Single Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

There almost never seems to be a day go by when the new breed of Liverpool bands finds a way in which to grab hold of the listeners hands, takes them down a seemingly deserted alleyway and then shows them the bustling lights and active highway that stretches out before them as the music of a distinct set of musicians illuminates the sky.

To perform in Liverpool should be a nothing less than an honour. It is the rightful home of the birth of British Pop Music, the most successful city in the U.K. where music is concerned and in many way it is home to perhaps the most diverse variety, with even the glimmering of the heavier side of Metal and the coolness of Progressive Rock having its fans in the Merseyside areas surrounding the heartlands of venues such as The Cavern, Parr Street, The Academy, District, The Lomax, The Brink and The Epstein. To perform in Liverpool should be an honour, to watch Joe Symes and Loving Kind is a special kind of privilege.

Joe Symes And The Loving Kind, Album Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

There are some bands that just typify a new way of thinking by recognising and acknowledging the past. The sound they create and bring together is the special blend that others strive for but quite often gets lost in a murky and heady fog of ideas. For Joe Symes and The Loving Kind, the amalgam of 21st Century life in their home city of Liverpool and the consideration of what made the city stand out as the musical powerhouse of the country go hand in hand on their exciting and astonishing self-titled debut album.

The Hummingbirds, Gig Review. The Atkinson, Southport.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

They are one of the great young bands and artists that call Liverpool their home. Alongside many others that in the last few years have made the city’s music addicts sit up and take notice of the new and tremendously exciting breed coming through, such as All We Are, Stealing Sheep, Path Unknown, Joe Symes and The Loving Kind, Only Child, Mono L.P.s, Matt Breen, Buckle Tongue, Rob Vincent and Carrianne Hayden, The Hummingbirds name has travelled far and wide, beyond the metaphorical city walls and out into the open world. People outside the city have once more discovered what makes Liverpool tick like no other in the U.K. and perhaps in the world.

Joe Symes And The Loving Kind, Gig Review. Threshold Festival, Siren, Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

Before the day’s Threshold Festival entertainments had started, Siren had had a few of the performers which were making the Baltic Quarter their home for the weekend going through their paces, a pre-match warm up in which to shake any dust out of the lungs that could scupper a great performance. By the end of the day, Joe Symes and the Loving Kind were playing to a packed out audience who had seen many superb musicians during the day but who were in the mood for just one more superb act to finish the day with.
