The Pantomime is an institution, one of first experiences for many to whom the theatre is a haven to be preserved, of silliness and beauty, of hearing that loud series of giggles and laughter from younger audiences before they become self-conscious and trapped within the confines of fitting behaviour. It is when you see this in action during the Pantomime that it reminds you of what brought you into this fascinating and beguiling world in the first place, magic, the wonderful world of the delightful thrill, where anything is possible and the overall enchantment that the young mind grasps onto with relish.

Pantomime is special, it is social glue that binds generations and allows children their first journeys into appreciating theatre. It is also almost uniquely British, undeniably good fun and something that captures the inner child in us all. We may take our children and grandchildren along in the hope they will entertained, educated and thrilled by the music, the jokes and the magic that comes with a trip to see that Fairy Godmothers do exist, in which the hero and heroine of the story live happily ever after and the joy of the Pantomime Dame lead the audience through the innuendo, however it is as much for the adult in the group as it is the child.

Jack’s back in town and the giant quakes with fear in his castle in the clouds and the henchwoman knows her days are numbered…well not quite, this is after all a Pantomime and the hero isn’t exactly the courageous, quick witted type.
