It Bites arrived on stage with a mission to prove that last year’s critically acclaimed tour with John Mitchell at the helm was not a one-off success.

By starting the evening with the barnstorming Ghosts and All In Red, any fears were put aside as keyboard player John Beck, bassist Lee Pomeroy and drummer Bob Dalton blew the fans away with the edginess of the music.

The night was more about celebrating the 21st anniversary of the album Once Around The World and the guys played every song from the record.

With a brand new studio album, the first in 19 years, due out later this month, It Bites answered the critics over whether they are still a relevant force in rock music with a resounding yes.

By playing virtually all their new album, The Tall Ships, you could almost see the reinvention taking place before your eyes as John Mitchell’s superb guitar work fitted in perfectly with keyboard player John Beck, drummer Bob Dalton and session bassist Lee Pomeroy.

One of the best progressive rock bands to come out of the 80’s made a welcome return to touring this month. It Bites only got back together a few years ago but on the back of the superb album The Tall Ships they have not kept still.

With a brand new live album out now, titled Live in Japan, the band came on stage at the Islington Academy to huge applause and genuine warmth from a very loyal following.

If there is such a thing as a marriage made in Heaven, then the day John Mitchell and Lee Pomeroy joined It Bites must surely be the closest moment for fans of Progressive Rock.

Map of the Past is only the second album that John Mitchell, John Beck, Bob Dalton and Lee Pomeroy have worked together on under the name of It Bites, however like 2008’s The Tall Ships, Map of the Past is an album that may have been long in its delivery but the result is so well worth the wait.
