Liverpool Sound And Vision: The Sunday Postscript, An Interview With Richie Grice.

Richie Grice cuts a commanding but ultimately loveable figure as he sits before you. His love of comedy radiates outwards from the very time you meet him and he certainly knows his stuff and his ready laugh is easy and a joyous thing to hear whenever you mention something that tickles his own funny bone.

With rehearsals well under way for Bon Voyage at The Epstein Theatre, which stars the superb Lindzi Germain and the legendary Mickey Finn, I was able to catch ten precious minutes with the man who co-wrote the play with Paul Nicholson at The Garden at FACT and ask him his thoughts on the play and on comedy.

To see how far an idea can go, to see it flourish and become part of a city’s conscious, you don’t have to go a long way from the centre of town to the Epstein Theatre to witness the power of a great play and the imagination to keep taking it one stage further. When the Unity Theatre staged Donna Lesley Price’s supremely funny play If The Shoe Fits, no one could surely have envisioned just how it would grow and take root. From the Unity to the Floral Pavilion on the other side of the Mersey and now to one of the heart-land theatres, If The Shoe Fits continues to blossom and be an outstanding piece of Liverpool theatre.

Liverpool Sound And Vision: The Sunday Postscript, An Interview With Donna Lesley Price and Richie Grice.

Donna Lesley Price and Richie Grice are out of breath after travelling for an interminable age from across the Wirral, through the congested and rammed tunnel system that goes underneath the Mersey and finally racing across town to get to The Unity. The last thing I want to do is make them talk about their play, If the Shoe Fits, as they have already been working hard doing interviews all day.

Liverpool Sound And Vision: The Sunday Postscript, An Interview With Charlie Griffiths

For anyone who has caught Charlie Griffiths either on stage in one of her many theatre productions or hearing her sing as part of the duo Killa Sista, it is easy to see why so many critics and, more importantly, audiences love her. She has numerous credits to her name, her first television appearance in Children’s Ward at the age of 13 led onto other  television roles. Her love of theatre has seen her star in Road as Helen, the title role in Everyman, Emma in A Liverpool Tale and Gloria in Return To Forbidden Planet.

In amongst the high profile theatre productions going on in Liverpool over the next couple of months, one piece of genuine theatre may have passed the everyday theatre goer by, which is, with all things considered, a shame. For in Boom Boom Baby Productions of If the Shoe Fits, audiences were left reeling with laughter as the company thrilled everyone with their irreverent look at Liverpool life through the eyes of a group of people who work in a high class shoe shop.

When a play is as terrific, expansive and well observed as If The Shoe Fits, then no matter what theatre it is put on at, it is sure to draw the crowds in their numbers and be enjoyed for what it is, a play that really draws on the underbelly of city life, its laughter, its dreams and also its seedier side which is just as much a part of humanity as the bright lights and shopping malls.
