There are many precious stones that lay on the floor unnoticed, some that have fallen from the stars and lay undisturbed until the right pair of eyes gazes upon them and sees something extraordinary in its shape and form. Scratch beneath the surface though and not all stones are what they seem and instead can hold a hidden danger that once woken becomes a hunter, a hunter in which only The Doctor can hope to stop in Mark Morris’ latest audio drama for Big Finish, Moonflesh.

The last post is played, Poirot has died. Not before though the Belgian solves his last murder before it has even happened as the pace of this special, Curtain: Poirot’s Final Case goes deeper and darker than has been alluded to before, with the greatest of exceptions to the Poirot story of them all, Murder On The Orient Express.

It really will be a shame for lovers of Poirot when this particular series comes to an end. The only way that they will get their fix will be to watch all the episodes on back to back repeat. Not such a hard problem to get round it seems but there will certainly be no new episodes recorded starring the irreplaceable David Suchet as the consummate Belgian.

Doctor Who, War Against The Laan. Big Finish Audio Play, 2.03. Review.

Cast: Tom Baker, Mary Tamm, David Warner, Hayley Atwell, Jane Slavin, Toby Hadoke, Hugh Fraser, Nicholas Biggs, John Dorney, Beth Chalmers.

With The Lann about to destroy Earth as billions of the species mistake the planet as their own personal birthing pool, the second part of the two part story by Nicholas Briggs takes on one of those great sidesteps and gives fans something else to chew over and digest. Rather than the thought of interplanetary war between two species, the subtext offers something different, something not implemented in the Doctor Who world for a long while.
