The more the series goes, the bolder, more intricate, daring, it arguably gets, if played out right, the ideas keep coming, the bond between the actors grows stronger and like a team that has ascended the same mountain range every year, the more sure-footed they become, the more trust there is between the cast. In Mission Impossible: Fallout that trust not only shows, it is indomitable, even with the new addition of the excellent Henry Cavill coming into the series as the C.I.A. hitman and enforcer August Walker.

There are moments of cinema so longed for that when they finally arrive it is always with a touch of hesitation of whether the viewer will actually believe in the finished article. The ultimate match-ups, the suspense, the nature of heroism, the costumes, the fights, the unexpected and the one cruel eye of misfortune waiting in the wings like an errant spider, swollen, ready to pounce on anything that makes the film stand out in a way that just doesn’t fit in with the idealistically placed images running around the fan’s mind.

It’s almost impossible to dislike what Guy Ritchie brings to the world of film, he is at times the epitome of what great British cinema should be viewed as and his latest venture, a suave and sophisticated remake of the classic 1960s television programme The Man From U.N.C.L.E, is up there with RockNRolla, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and the excellent Robert Downey Jnr. versions of Sherlock Holmes in terms of high pace, intelligent, creative independence and stylish cinema.

The least said about the 2006 Superman Returns film the better, the small screen adaptations although kept the legend alive were filler, more fluff than in a room full of pillows and for the films that made Christopher Reeve the deserved star he would be, there was so much wrong with them, so many parts miscast, so much playing for laughs that it can be often surprising to think that they three sequels.
