Queen can be viewed in two different ways, there will be those who champion the band, who see the band and revel in the music created, the uniqueness, the harmony of expression, the explosion of personality and the dedication to craft songs and albums in which nobody has been able to come close to capturing the vibe of since; then there will be those who see them as one of the architects of overhype, of being part of all that was perhaps wrong with rock, of destructive traits, of having a leading man who allowed his demons and desires to get in the way of making music.

Barnaby as the Saints and Sinners flock together in Midsomer Murders.

There is always a deep meaning to art that might not be first gleaned upon by the layman or the average discerning follower of artistic fashion, just as there is always a hidden motive and significance to murder. Both schools of interpretation look deeply and find sense where they must, both offer value and worth to human understanding and yet murder never imitates art but art is playful in its appreciation of the blackest of all deeds.

There is more in the Universe than can ever be contemplated in the philosophy of a Detective Inspector in rural England, however the only thing alien about the county of Midsomer is that the murderer always believes that the bigger the elaborate death, the chances of them getting away with it; for that Inspector John Barnaby has both feet firmly planted in the real and on planet Earth.

Midsomer may have had more than its fair share of murders over the years, a record that is unlikely to be surpassed at any time in the near future, but it has never suffered from the ghoulish act of body snatching in that time and yet right underneath the noses of Lancaster family, the patriarch of the family is removed from his death bed and the body of proof is cleansed.

There seems to be a fascination with the art of British wine making and the artistry of sensational jealous murder, it’s almost as if wine brings out the worst in those with evil nefarious intent and there is a subtle unsaid notion that the more natural drinks of the islands just leave you worse for wear, that there is no jealousy over a 40 year old Balvenie Malt apart from who gets the last amber drop.

Death always needs a great theme tune. It is the signifier to a very good film or television detective series that an oncoming loss of life by nefarious means is accompanied by a memorable song or instrumental piece. If The Omen had a soundtrack, that say for example, was light and pithy would it have made young Damien seem more brutal or somehow as cuddly as a panda with an overbearing affection disorder?
