Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 8.5/10

Cast: Steve Carrell, Domhnall Gleeson, Linda Emond, Andrew Leeds, Laura Niemi, Alan Blumenfeld, Alex Rich, David Alan Grier.

The measure of our guilt is such that we no longer seek out absolution and forgiveness from a member of the clergy, we seek enlightenment to the course of our actions from someone who can glean through analysis and psychotherapy that our engagements are not our responsibility; the cop out of our times that leads to blaming others and leading to a discordant view of reality.

You need separate your feelings and your emotions when watching the five-part miniseries, White House Plumbers, for the sense of disbelief will be all consuming as the understanding of just how perilously close the United States of America came to be under a tyranny, and how deliriously the ineptness of certain individuals saved the country from being a danger to itself.

You can’t keep a good franchise down; lord knows they tried with the release of the much maligned episodes one and two of the Star Wars saga, but no matter what, eventually the licence to entertain and print money, sell merchandise and hopefully the true point of making a good story realised on screen will see the series continue.

It really isn’t saying a lot about a film when you start thinking to yourself as you reflect and muse upon what you have seen, that you ponder that at least it wasn’t as bad as Noah. The story of creation told in a very modern way, in an approach that actually makes more sense for those who might have found something far better to attend than religious studies on a Monday morning, or even those to whom the imagination runs a lot deeper than what we are persuaded to do when considering passages from the Bible.

There are extraordinary feats of human endeavour that you just have to marvel at, lessons from people in the past to how they conducted themselves under severe pressure and extremes and how perhaps as young infants of the 21st Century we have lost that natural affinity to stretch ourselves against such adversity.

Nothing can truly prepare you for that moment when you walk through immigration at J.F.K. or when you step off the boat and look to the west to begin a new life, nothing prepares you for the home sickness, for the memory of the people you have left behind or for the realisation that no matter how far you travel, home is now only a plane journey away.
