When we think of strange happenings at train stations our minds could be drawn to the terrific tale by Charles Dickens, The Signal-Man,  and the second adventure in the spooky Sapphire and Steel series, for our lives in the last two hundred years have been altered by the arrival of the ability to travel across country in a matter of hours rather than the days and weeks it would have taken to journey for example from London to Inverness even at the end of the 18th Century; but also time has a way of causing ripples, and where better than a place where mechanism and modern ingenuity meets the stagnation of patiently waiting for life to continue.

Mercutio was ahead of his time as he lay dying in the arms of Romeo, a plague has indeed been visited upon all our houses, but not the direct one you may be thinking of, but instead the beast of burden which has seen audiences and theatres changing completely their style of interaction with each other, the after effects of a life changing situation meaning that to engage with the public and give them hope in what has been a period of uncertainty.

As the 21st Century grumbles on and the further we move away from the period of time in which our grandparents gave up on almost everything except hope, the more the apathy to maintaining the struggle against oppression grows more weary. In some cases it is possible to hear some people state out loud, “Shouldn’t we forget all this now?” Yet stories from the Second World War continue to surface and perhaps none more startling in recent years than that of Irène Némirovsky and her posthumously published unfinished novel Suite Française.

The art of deception and the sleight of hand,  the act of illusion and slight bemusement needs both to succeed; and so too does a good old fashioned Detective/murder programme.
