Every generation has its Batman. Every generation around it could find fault with the portrayal, only as with the divisive nature of religion, there are too many gods in which to hoist your devotion and understanding too. Better it seems is to acknowledge that each interpretation is but a part of a whole, take what you want from it, leave good karma, and revel in perhaps one of graphic novel and comic history’s finest ever creations.

When the lid to Pandora’s Box was ripped open, the hinges almost groaning with delight as all the evils of the world came storming out, chasing down humanity with thoughtless plagues and the possibility of soul-minded destruction, nobody paid heed to what came fluttering lazily out after Hope had been urged to rescue the minds of all, the almost burned-out wings that carried the act of the live action remake, the guise in which imagination is lauded but in which sits unhappily reflecting upon the demise of the searing height of new imaginations being allowed to take hold.

A new generation, a new audience, one that gets transplanted out of 1980s Britain and into the heart of 21st Century Chicago politics and undercurrent of American crime, Widows might not have been one that its enormous fanbase might have ever thought needed updating but it is one that works, that makes the absolute use of the grime and seemingly untouchable attitude of modern politics and its strange bedfellow of corruption, criminality and violence.

Damnation of any kind can eat away at your soul, from the careless whispering challenge to the outburst in which people regret their poorly chosen words of anger, all is sent out into the world like a Pandora’s Box of ill will; the revenge of something taken and the need to redress the balance is uppermost in such human episodes of grief made sentiments taken to extremes.

It is impossible to ignore the magic, the film that will leave you spellbound and entranced, even without trying too hard it will leave you on the verge of feeling the slack jaw and the misty eyed, a memory of feeling the optimism with any story told when you were a child and seeing that tale run with the grace of imagination installed into it by the writing, the way it was told and the small details of the descriptions added into it by a cool parent.

There are films that engross you, that pull you in from the very start, the intrigue of the dynamic opening, that no matter how the film progresses from that point, no matter the connection made between film-goer and intended meaning by the writer and director, you are already living and breathing in the black celluloid dystopia on offer, such is the surreal quality of life and of The Lobster.

Saving Mr. Banks is a film that exemplifies the thought that somewhere between novel and film the life of the author is lost in the complexity of producing a cinema hit. The life of the writer, whose soul is poured into the painful birth of producing something that in a lot of cases is a cathartic way of exorcising a childhood memory, is overlooked. Cinema audiences, perhaps comforted in many cases by the end result, neglect the person who gave them the character in the first place.
