Somewhere over the rooftops of Liverpool, a haunting soliloquy is sang softly by one of the people the new renaissance taking place in the city couldn’t touch. In Lime Street an old ghost comes home to face the past and a group of children’s memories are re-awoken. The Futurist Cinema may be gone but its soul still resonates in those that made it their home and for the future, a Bright Phoenix stirs from the ashes of a crumbling society.

Liverpool Everyman Premieres Jeff Young’s New Play, Bright Phoenix, This October.

Jeff Young’s new play, Bright Phoenix, has its world première at the Everyman in October and is inspired by a hidden Liverpool, a version of the city that is unauthorised and often unseen. The production is directed by Serdar Biliş, designed by Ti Green and features Paul Duckworth, Penny Layden, Rhodri Meilir and Cathy Tyson. The play runs from Friday 3rd to Saturday 25th October.

Only the Everyman Theatre could celebrate turning 50 and its rebirth in the same year, in one of those rare and exciting oddities of timing that capture the imagination and make the theatrical taste buds quiver with anticipation on just how a theatre can ever top its marvellous re-entrance into the lives of everybody in Liverpool.
