The Boomtown Rats, Gig Review. 02 Academy, Newcastle.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

For those that found themselves in the company of Simon Crowe and Garry Roberts in the Bilston Robin 2 as they thrilled discerning audiences as part of From The Rats  in August 2008 the thought that 4/5ths of The Boomtown Rats line-up would tour together during 2013 would have seemed like a dream that could never come true in a million years, an impossible fantasy you would have bet against from the start but slowly and surely the superb Garry Roberts and Simon Crowe have been joined by Bob Geldof and Pete Briquette and with the very talented Darren Beale adding a touch of youthful exuberance to the cause on guitar, The Boomtown Rats took the packed Newcastle 02 Academy and with just a couple of songs performed from a top notch set list, you could see that they had gone down a storm.

Fish, Gig Review. Bilston Robin 2.

Giant Of Rock Scales Heights.

The gentle, yet sometimes easily riled, giant of rock has been doing the rounds for over 20 years and never seems to put in a bad live performance and it is a testament to Fish that he still commands a very loyal following.

Even when the size of the venues has decreased in size he still treats the audience with respect and a night to talk about for weeks after.

John Otway may not be a name that runs off easily of the lips of many modern music lovers, however for a generation of people bought up with the idea of individualism, the man stands out as shining beacon of hope in an ever increasing drab world.

Part rock star/part imaginary chemistry teacher who would have taught that science could be fun if he had made that a career choice; John Otway weaves his way through an evening’s entertainment with panache, style, the best use of a Theremin anywhere and a big dollop of inspired insanity that marks the man out as one in a million.

It really was a coup of epic proportions when the announcement was put out that ex-Toto guitarist Steve Lukather would be playing the Robin 2 in Bilston. Steve has played some of the biggest venues in the world in his time and has recorded and jammed with some of the biggest artists but nothing could have prepared him for the colossal welcome he received from an expectant and incredibly vocal Midlands crowd.

After last year’s important and mind blowing appearance at the High Voltage Festival in London, Martin Turner’s Wishbone Ash have been busy preparing for yet another tour. After being well received so far, the band arrived on stage at the Robin in Bilston full of hope and a mission statement to entertain and enthrall the adoring crowd.
