To compare like with like is only human, and whilst art is not a competition, it cannot be dismissed when holding in your thoughts two versions of a much loved and admired source material to which both versions claim to be authentic and with the spirit of the author in their production.

There is a monster in all of us, how we keep it quiet, how we take on its virtues and its quirks is up to us, whether we drown it, whether we lull it to sleep with any type of substances or whether we allow it to consume us, to overtake our lives and subdue, to make us feel the guilt of all we have done, the thought behind it all may be too much to handle, it may just be too Colossal.

Les Miserables, Film Review.

Surely there is no way that one of the most intriguing theatrical productions of its time can transfer all its intensity, all of its enthusiasm and guile to the cinematic screen without losing any of its radical thought or scope. Many producers have tried and not many have ever matched the experience that you get when you are as deeply involved with the tale as you are when you embroiled deep within the production as a passionate observer, however with Cameron Mackintosh at the helm and Tom Hooper as director, there is no way Les Miserables can fail.

The arc is complete, the third and (supposed) final Batman film starring Christian Bale as The Dark Knight gets underneath the skin of the man and the protector of Gotham City and leaves in its wake all other versions of Bob Kane’s greatest creation.
