Murder has to be inventive to keep the interest of those who delight in such anarchy, however, the reasons for murder have become entangled in reasons to which have become ever murkier, more salient, less transparent as they have ever been. It is no longer enough to kill a character on the basis of greed, gain or for the love of someone, now there must be complexity, there must be retribution for the act in which the victim surely deserves to die. It is in this realm of vengeance that the merest sleight becomes weaponised, the act of ecocide is met with the fullest support of death to the perpetrator by all concerned. It is no longer enough to see someone brought to justice, tried by a jury, now there must be blood.

It is often bewildering to see that some television series are not appreciated at the time of their showing, viewer apathy perhaps, a certain level of niggling tedium born arguably of the fact that society, in the main, has got too used to everything being on demand, too eager to binge and then becoming bored because the art form doesn’t move along as quick as their racing and almost jumbled thoughts.

There is something magical about Greek and Roman mythology; it has consistently been a source of epic tales and for the vast majority of the stories that have survived the spectre of time, they are thrilling, exciting and serve to be poignant many millennia after they first appeared.

Doctor Who, 1001 Nights. Audio Drama Review. Big Finish 168.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

Cast: Peter Davison, Sarah Sutton, Alexander Siddig, Nadim Sawalha, Malcolm Tierney, Teddy Kemper, Kim Ismay, Debbie Leigh-Simmons, Christopher Luscombe, Oliver Coopersmith.

1001 nights, a little under three years, and in the realm of Doctor Who, a wonderful twist on an old story and the basis of may tales. The thing is with the Doctor, no matter the incarnation, there are a lot of tales to tell about the wandering detective, the man who makes things better. So many stories that can be woven into the fabric of the Big Finish stories that sometimes one writer is not enough, nor it seems is one tale per C.D. release.
