Two Liverpool Theatre Companies Unite For New Children’s Puppet Show.

When Another Dragon Roars from Petite Ullaloom and Altered Scale Theatre will feature innovative storytelling, puppetry and music.

Liverpool-based children’s theatre companies Petite Ullaloom and Altered Scale Theatre will bring their new production, When Another Dragon Roars, to Unity Theatre on the 14th Feb 2018.

The production ignites young audiences’ imaginations by bringing mythical creatures centre stage, asking “Why does the dragon roar? Does it roar with worry? Is it lonely? Can you calm an angry dragon?”. Feelings and emotions such as these are explored through Petite Ullaloom’s distinctive storytelling and Altered Scale’s visual puppetry skills. The production investigates different ways of expressing and dealing with these emotions, using techniques perfect for children aged 5+.

This is the third collaboration between the companies and they are thrilled to be supported by The Unity Theatre and to have the opportunity to perform in their new space, reopened following their £850,000 redevelopment, on Wednesday 14th February at 11.30 and 2.30 pm.

Writer, actor and designer Austin Mitchel Hewitt commented, “This is our third fantastic collaboration! Puppetry and storytelling have been a passion of mine since I was a very young; one of my first toys as a child was a bright yellow lion hand puppet who I still treasure to this day, he even made an appearance in my solo show as a protagonist. This show is really exciting, looking at emotions in the context of story is a great way to help the children manage and understand their own feelings. It can be really hard to explain how you are feeling, especially if you are a dragon.

Writer and actor Lucy Fiori said, “I’ve been fascinated by dragons since an early age and love the way the fascination doesn’t go out of fashion! This show is extra special as I’m really interested in exploring the emotions of the these fantastic beasts; they are very often seen as purely evil, but in some cultures they were regarded as wise, magical creatures. I’m very excited to be collaborating once again with Altered Scale Theatre and of course, hearing lots of dragons roar!”

Tickets can be booked via Unity Theatre’s Box Office, by calling 0151 709 4988 or via www.unitytheatreliverpool.co.uk. Tickets are priced at £6.50.
