Everything that goes around will eventually find its way back home, in terms of music you will come across a song that reminds you so much of the days when the radio was the true emperor of all it surveyed, when bands could be assured they would be listened to and earn respect, when a female vocalist could tear your heart out with absolute joy and you would love her for it; when everything comes back around in your life, you had better make sure that 50ft Warrior are right at the head of the queue.
The sense of scale that Rowan Reid, Lloyd Bull, Daniel Du Noyer and Sol Murphy provide in the self-titled debut single release, the cry of the warrior, regardless of size, this single holds the very dearest of subjects that makes a single stand out before the hopeful album release, before the semi lit glow of the gigs to come with the song being a standard bearer for the fans to hold dear; it is passion and purity of spirit.
Female aggression in music has always been a wonder, regardless of genre or taste, if the feminine soul or the hard stare of the eyes hidden via a blanket of hair and the dark alluring shadow can capture the feeling of the combatant, Boudica, Elizabeth I, the Amazonian, never taking prisoner, never being questioned by men; this is the 50ft Warrior in all her glory, effective and fist clenching, urging the followers to rise up and take heed of their stance, it is a truly exhilarating scene to imagine.
It is in the exhilaration that that the single is gratefully received, Rowan Reid’s vocals carrying belief and scope, the memory of others who took a stand in the punk world, the immensity of Siouxsie Sioux, Patti Smith, Toyah Wilcox all being harnessed by Ms. Reid but with the edge of modern day enveloping the proceedings. This is a single not content to sit on the sidelines and watch the battle unfold; this is the defiant scream of the warrior declaring that size does not matter, it is the heart and soul that makes the fight seized head on and the club wielded, who better to have in your corner than the 50ft Warrior.
