Immerse Yourself In Emerging Artist’s Dystopian World As The Last Utopian Comes To Liverpool.

Hope Street Ltd’s Emerging Artists Programme 2016 is excited to present its latest project The Last Utopian early next month.

The Last Utopian is a sci-fi immersive theatrical game set in a dystopian world which will take place on 2nd and 3rd September at across several secret locations in Liverpool City Centre.

This alternative reality live action game will invite ‘players’ (audience members taking part) into a futuristic dystopian world in which they have been given a secret mission. In this alternate dystopian reality, the U.K. has moved into a paranoid and isolated society but soon the audience/player will find out that an underground resistance movement is already taking place and they must join it to survive and fulfil their mission.

Music will play a very important role in the game, holding the ‘key’ to a new world, a new ‘utopia’.

Music will play a ‘key’ role in the game, with original tracks being created exclusively for The Last Utopian. The Emerging Artists will be working with some of the many Liverpool based talented musicians; from a beat boxer to a classical guitarist, the audience will enjoy live performances during the game.

This is the third show by this year’s Hope Street Emerging Artists (EAP 2016), inspired by the current world political situation, and films like Blade Runner, the challenge will be to create an immersive theatre game across multiple venues.

To help the EAP 2016 create this world they will be collaborating with YEP (Young Everyman and Playhouse), 20 Stories High and Pagoda Arts amongst other community and young artists.

The Last Utopian follows the success of EAP 2016’s last project The Many Faces of Francis Bacon, a performance which took audiences on a secret tour behind closed doors at Tate Liverpool and was inspired by the work of one of the modern British masters whose exhibition Francis Bacon: Invisible Rooms is currently on display at Tate Liverpool until 18th September.

It will be the third show by EAP2016, a six-month intensive volunteering programme that provides participants with the opportunity to create their own work alongside professional artists of international calibre on a series of ambitious performances, as well as offering support at the onset of their careers.

The creative team includes director Adam McGuigan who participated in the Hope Street programme in 2004 as an emerging director before moving to Zambia where he founded and worked as artistic director of Barefeet Theatre until 2015.

Movement director Elinor Randle also started her career in the Hope Street programme in 2002, after which co-founded Tmesis Theatre. Elinor is currently is artistic director of Physical Fest and Tmesis.

Designer Elizabeth Wright has many years of experience across the UK and is associate designer at Theatre by the Lake. Originally from Liverpool, she is delighted to be back in her city, working as a designer.

Musical Director is Luke Moore, composer and cellist, as well as being artistic director and founder of ‘Operation Lightfoot’, a music collaboration project.

We had a lot of fun creating this bizarre experience where audiences and players will be surrounded by tribal punk rhythms, meet sinister characters and heroic spirits. We really want the people of Liverpool to be part of this… who will be the hero?” Roberta Guccione – EAP performer.

EAP’s future projects include The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir who got trapped in an Ikea Wardrobe in October and Changing Landscapes as the EAP final show in November.
