Unity Youth Theatre Stage A Take Over This June.

Unity Youth Theatre will stage a takeover of Unity Theatre’s building on Saturday 25th June. Taking the form of a promenade piece through the building, Then, Now and Neon Lights will take audiences on a tour of the theatre’s spaces.

The new self-devised piece is an extravaganza of stories, music and happenings inspired by the style of work created as part of Merseyside Left Theatre; responding to the current political landscape, while zooming forward and asking “what does the future hold?”

UYT co-director, Laura Campbell said, “The members of Unity Youth Theatre have been fascinated by Unity’s political past – it was previously called Merseyside Left Theatre. Looking back at the early days of the theatre has inspired a very Brechtian show. One of our members will be performing an excerpt from Waiting for Lefty, a piece synonymous with the early days of the Unity Theatre movement.

Artistic Director and CEO of Unity Theatre, Matthew Linley, said, “With political theatre very much on the rise again its great to see our brilliant Youth Theatre taking over our whole building, responding to our past as well as looking out towards our, and their futures. Unity Youth Theatre have shown time and again that they have a very unique and individual take on all sorts of questions and issues so I can’t wait to be amazed by their creative re-imagining of the Unity spaces.”

Then, Now and Neon Lights is at Unity Theatre on Saturday 25th June, at 4pm, 5pm and 6pm. Tickets can be purchased via Unity Theatre’s Box Office, by calling 01517094988 or online: www.unitytheatreliverpool.co.uk.
