Sanguine, Social Decay. Single Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 8.5/10

When anyone thinks of Devon, arguably the last thing that will go through their minds as an answer is the world of Metal, unless of course they are into the study of ancient Archaeology and then that perhaps is a step too far for even the power and carnage that awaits the gentile and patient as the music of Sanguine fills the air and the passion of Social Decay kicks the sand and dig sites away and replaces it with raw and undiluted anger.

The band may have been out of earshot for the last three years but dig deep through the memory, dust off the small rooms in the mind that house such great memories of victories past and inside, under the cover of forgotten sheets and linen stands the incredible authority of a band wielding vengeance and the offer of the corrosive and divisive

It is vocalist Tarin Kerrey’s screaming delivery that pushes the song out beyond the realms of midnight, past the darkness that has been the band’s home for the last three years. The sense of the anarchy that pounds the ears into submission and the relentless drive of Nick Magee’s guitar, Ross Andrew’s Bass and Matt Feld’s Drums all make the song about the inevitable, of punishing control by those who believe that dominating your every move makes them powerful and untouchable, such a great new release.

Three years may be a long time for any band between recordings but to come back such confidence and bravado only underlines the absolute optimism at play within the group and Social Decay really hits the spot hard and fast.

A fantastic return and the county of Devon has something more to shout about once more.

Sanguine release their album Black Sheep on October 2nd.
