L.I.P.A. Students And Past Graduates To Take Shout! The Mod Musical To Edinburgh.

Students and graduates from The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (L.I.P.A.) are returning to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer, following a smash hit success at last year’s Fringe. The bright, bold and lively musical is being staged from 5th – 30th August at Momentum Venues, Edinburgh. Shout! The Mod Musical features a cast, band, technical and creative team from the Paul McCartney School on Mount Street.

Shout! The Mod Musical is a non-stop party through the infectious and soulful pop anthems and ballads of the swinging 60s. Shout! uses letters to an advice columnist, true confessions, quizzes and advertisements as a frame for new arrangements of chart-topping hits such as To Sir With Love, Downtown, You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me, Son of A Preacher Man, and Goldfinger. Audiences will laugh, cry and sing along with the gorgeous girls of Shout! and reminisce of the decade of peace and love.

Shout! is the first professional production by Max Emmerson Productions. The company is run by Max Unsworth, a Music, Theatre and Entertainment student at L.I.P.A. who is due to graduate in July. Max said, “We’re really excited to be bringing the show back to the Fringe this summer. Last year was an incredible first experience of Edinburgh and this year the show is bigger, better, and even more colourful!”

At 2014’s Fringe, the show proved immensely popular with audiences and critics alike. Broadway Baby gave it 5/5 and described it as, “The ultimate antidote to all your anxieties; theatrical therapy at its funniest and a dynamic dose of musical medicine for the soul.” The Public Reviews said, “Shout! The Mod Musical is a stunning Fringe debut and stands out as one of the strongest of the musical revivals currently being presented at this year’s Fringe”.

Liverpool acting and comedy legend Michael Starke – best known for playing Sinbad in Brookside – provides the voice over in the show and his daughter, Hayley Hampson – most recently seen in the Royal Court’s Scouse of the Antarctic – plays one of the girls in the show.

Shout! is being performed at Momentum Venues at St Stephen’s Centre in Edinburgh, a new addition to this year’s Fringe festival. Momentum Venues is being managed by Sell A Door Theatre Company, a professional graduate company from L.I.P.A.

Sell A Door’s Artistic Director David Hutchinson says “We have wanted to provide a better experience for companies. By joining forces with L.I.P.A. and finding a perfect venue, this is now, finally, possible. We want to play our part and marries well with L.I.P.A.’s ambitions to continue to promote their graduate companies”.

With backing and support from Liverpool’s Royal Court Theatre, L.I.P.A. and a number of local businesses, Shout! will perform in Edinburgh from the 5th – 30th August. Tickets are on sale from 11th May via the Edinburgh Fringe website – www.edfringe.com. For more information about the show, visit www.facebook.com/shoutmodmusical.
