Merseybeat’s Best Female Vocalist Is Celebrated In A Brand New Musical.

The life and career of Liverpool-born singer Beryl Marsden is to be celebrated on stage in a brand new musical ONE DREAM:  The Beryl Marsden Story.

Following its sell-out pilot performances at the world famous Cavern Club on Mathew Street, ONE DREAM is now moving to the city’s Epstein Theatre from 14th-16th March this year. The performances mark the 50th anniversary of the release of Beryl’s live recording of Everybody Loves a lover on the L.P. ‘Live at The Cavern’.

Sixties singer Beryl Marsden said: “Staging our show at the Epstein Theatre has presented us with the opportunity to develop and expand ONE DREAM into a major musical production. I am really excited to have the musical performed at such a great theatre, it holds such fond memories for me. We have such a talented company of actors and musicians. I can’t wait for March to see the show on a main stage.”

Beryl began singing as a child and at the age of 15 and was invited to join local group The Undertakers. Beryl went on to perform regularly at The Cavern alongside many of the well-known groups of the time, including The Beatles with whom she toured across the U.K. in 1965.

At the age of 16 Beryl went on to appear at the Star Club in Hamburg on the same bill as rock n roll stars such as Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis. In 1966, Beryl joined Rod Stewart, Peter Green and Mick Fleetwood to form a new group ‘Shotgun Express’. They made two singles and were together for about 18 months. After singing with John Lennon on his record Instant Karma, Beryl returned to Liverpool to work on the local soul and R&B circuit. She is considered the best female singer on the Merseybeat scene, and is still very highly regarded as a performer.

ONE DREAM: The Beryl Marsden Story shows how Beryl was helped in her struggle to overcome an intensely traumatising period in her life by discovering and practising Buddhism, and how this led to her close friendship with singer Sandie Shaw.

The musical features some great 60’s classic songs, together with some new original material. A pilot run of the show was initially performed at The Cavern Club in June 2013, proving hugely successful, playing to sell-out audiences. The show is now ready to hit the main stage.

ONE DREAM is a ground-breaking musical which mirrors the ups and downs of the music business and reflects the special charm of the heady days of Merseybeat seen through the eyes of one of its greatest talents – Beryl Marsden.
