Scrunchie Theatre Company Bring Their Play Extreme Withdrawal Is Manifest To Liverpool.

Some patients experience hallucinations, often of voices ridiculing them and may have delusions that they have been responsible for a horrific catastrophe’. How can we understand the intricacies of a clinically unstable mind, when we ourselves are volatile and unbalanced?’

Extreme Withdrawal Is Manifest is an intense play that follows the traumatic experiences of a mother left drowning in the wake of her daughter’s disappearance. The gripping narrative hurtles the audience through the devastating events leading up to her disappearance, portraying the struggles endured by the pair as they fight against the daughter’s mental instability. As the tension builds, the characters and the audience become desperate to understand what’s occurring before them. The play is a stark portrait of mental instability where reality crashes with imagination. Fresh truths are revealed about the destructive and chaotic complexities of the human mind.

 This original and innovative play is devised and performed by this exciting new duo. This gripping performance encompasses an unusual use of multi-role and multi-media to create a thrilling and fast-paced drama and will be performed for one night only in Liverpool at The Lantern Theatre on July 12th.

 Scrunchie Theatre Company is a professional theatre group based in Preston run by recent UCLAN (BA) hons. Acting graduates, Alice Smithson and Laura Hill. They are a new exciting company that use movement, masks and multi-media to portray their stories.

Scrunchie Theatre’s debut performance of Extreme Withdrawal Is Manifest played to the Arts & Media Centre as part of the 2012 Preston Fringe Festival, with high audience numbers and positive feedback from audience members and local reviewers. Based on this performance, the festival organiser approached the company with regards to programming the work at his new arts venue in Preston. They now have a North West tour scheduled throughout July, including venues in Liverpool, Bingley, the Buxton Fringe and the Greater Manchester Fringe, before venturing up to Edinburgh to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.
